Side Trips from Bangkok: Ko Kret

Ko Kret is a small island in the middle of the Chao Phraya River but f you’re looking for sandy beaches and palm trees just outside of Bangkok, skip this post. It’s not that kind of island. It was just a knob of land jutting out into the river until a few decades before Bangkok was founded, when clever engineers cut a canal through it to create a shortcut.

Spring Break Thailand: Which Beach?

As part of C’s trip to Thailand, we planned a 3 night/4 day trip to the beach. She lives in Southern California and the coastline is certainly beautiful there, but let’s be honest, nothing can really compare to the beaches and islands of Thailand (not to mention that the Pacific Ocean is *&#$*! freezing!).

You’d think it would be easy to pick the destination, since I know the beaches so well, but every traveler is different and what one person thinks is perfect might be boring, crowded, too young, too old or otherwise not right for another.  Fortunately, there really is something for everyone when it comes to the beaches in Thailand. read more »

Here’s the rundown on our sailing trip off Phuket. We just got back last night, I’m a little sunburned and, I have to admit, more than a little sad to be back on dry land. Our trip was fantastic. Spectacular. Wonderful. Fun.
